Senior Hardware Engineer

Job Overview

Linemaster Switch Corporation is seeking a Senior Hardware Engineer with at least five years of experience in electronic hardware design and development. This position will support the development of custom foot and hand controls, with a primary focus on medical device applications.

The Senior Hardware Engineer will take ownership of hardware development from initial requirements and circuit design through prototype evaluation, verification, production release, and ongoing product support. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in low power electronics and wireless device design, practical troubleshooting skills, and the ability to work independently while collaborating with firmware, mechanical, test, and manufacturing engineers. Experience developing products for the medical industry is preferred.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Hardware design and development: Design analog, digital, and mixed signal circuits for embedded control products. Develop schematics, select components, perform design calculations, and complete or oversee printed circuit board layout.
  • Low power and wireless design: Develop battery powered and low power electronic systems, including power management, sensor interfaces, microcontroller circuits, and wireless communication hardware. Evaluate power consumption, communication reliability, and antenna integration.
  • Product integration: Work closely with firmware and mechanical engineers to define hardware interfaces, integrate electronic assemblies, and resolve system level design challenges. Participate in technical discussions with customers and suppliers.
  • Prototyping and troubleshooting: Support prototype builds, perform initial hardware evaluation, and investigate circuit performance, component failures, and interactions between hardware and firmware. Recommend and implement corrective design changes.
  • Verification and testing: Define hardware acceptance criteria and work with test engineering to develop and execute appropriate test plans. Review results, investigate failures, and document evidence that designs meet established requirements.
  • Documentation and risk management: Prepare and maintain hardware specifications, schematics, bills of materials, design analyses, test reports, and engineering change documentation. Participate in design reviews and failure mode and effects analyses to address product safety, reliability, and performance.
  • Production and technical support: Support the transfer of designs into production, resolve manufacturing and field issues, and evaluate component substitutions and obsolescence. Provide technical guidance to test engineers and engineering technicians.
