Company History

Engineering Leadership Since 1937
Linemaster Switch Corporation has been engineering foot control solutions since 1937. For nearly ninety years, the company has helped define durability, precision, and reliability in foot switch design. What began as a practical engineering solution has evolved into a recognized industry standard for foot control systems used in medical, industrial, and commercial equipment worldwide.
Today, Linemaster stands as a leading manufacturer of engineered foot switches, serving equipment manufacturers who demand consistent performance in environments where reliability is critical. From operating rooms and diagnostic equipment to industrial workstations and production floors, Linemaster products are designed to perform under demanding conditions without compromise.
Operating from its 50,000 square foot manufacturing facility in Woodstock, Connecticut, the company designs and manufactures more than 300 standard catalog models while continuing to advance wireless and intelligent control technologies. The company’s longevity is not accidental. It is the result of disciplined manufacturing, focused engineering, and long-term private ownership that prioritizes sustainable growth over short term positioning.
A Foundation Built on Innovation
Linemaster’s origins trace back to the Great Depression. In 1937, Albert Simonds incorporated the Simonds Machine Company in Southbridge, Massachusetts, with a 500 dollar gift from his aunt and a machinery loan from the Reynolds Company in Providence, Rhode Island. While manufacturing optical grinding equipment, Simonds identified the need for a reliable hands-free control mechanism that would allow operators to maintain precision and safety at the same time.
Rather than modifying existing controls, he engineered a new solution. That invention became the modern foot switch and established the foundation of a product line that would define the company for decades.
During the 1940s and 1950s, the company expanded its portfolio with models such as the Senior, Junior, Duplex, Hercules, Nautilus, Cadet, Clipper, Executive, and Deluxe. These designs were developed with durability and mechanical integrity at their core. Many remain part of Linemaster’s offering today, demonstrating the strength of their original engineering.
In 1952, Linemaster Switch Corporation was formally established in Woodstock, Connecticut, at Bald Hill Acres, a location that continues to serve as the company’s headquarters and manufacturing site.

Growth Through Generational Leadership
Linemaster has remained privately held and family-led throughout its history, with leadership transitions that reinforced stability and continuity rather than disruption.
Following the passing of founder Albert Simonds in 1966, his wife Nancy Simonds stepped into the role of President and Treasurer. Having been actively involved in the business since the early years, she carried forward the same engineering-focused discipline and operational commitment that defined the company’s foundation. Under her leadership, Linemaster maintained its independence and continued its steady growth through the latter half of the twentieth century.
In April 1996, Joseph Carlone joined Linemaster as Vice President and General Manager, bringing with him extensive experience in manufacturing and operational leadership. In 1998, he was named President and began guiding the company through a period of modernization and operational refinement.
Joseph Carlone Jr. joined the company in 2006 and now leads its operations, continuing to expand engineering capabilities and advance new product development initiatives. In 2010, Tim Carlone joined the organization and serves as head of Human Resources, supporting a skilled and stable workforce that sustains Linemaster’s manufacturing and quality standards.
Through each transition, Linemaster’s leadership has remained focused on engineering excellence, operational discipline, and long-term growth. That continuity has allowed the company to evolve while preserving the foundation established in 1937.
Engineering and Manufacturing Capability
Linemaster manufactures heavy, medium, and light-duty foot switches used in demanding medical, industrial, and commercial applications across the globe. Products are engineered to withstand rigorous use while delivering consistent electrical and mechanical performance.
Each product is developed through a structured engineering process that integrates solid modeling, rapid prototyping, and 3D printing to accelerate validation and improve design accuracy. This disciplined development approach allows Linemaster to support both standard catalog products and application-specific solutions with confidence.
Manufacturing operations are supported by quality systems designed to meet the expectations of highly regulated industries. Linemaster works alongside equipment manufacturers, navigating FDA requirements, EU MDR considerations, ISO 13485 quality systems, UL standards, and material compliance frameworks. Regulatory awareness and disciplined quality control reinforce the company’s reputation for reliability in performance-critical environments.
Innovation and Intelligent Control Technologies
While Linemaster’s foundation is rooted in mechanical engineering excellence, its future is driven by intelligent control integration and advanced system capabilities. Linemaster also set an important industry milestone as the first company to receive FDA 510(K) clearance for a wireless foot switch, establishing a new benchmark for wireless control technology in medical environments.
The company continues to expand its wireless platforms, including Bluetooth Low Energy systems and battery power optimization strategies that enhance mobility while maintaining performance. Fully integrated wireless foot switch solutions provide flexibility without sacrificing durability.
Advancements in haptic feedback systems support improved user interaction and tactile confirmation. AI-ready control architecture allows integration with evolving equipment ecosystems. Enhanced cybersecurity protocols address the growing need for secure device communication. Proprietary technologies such as PanTech reflect continued investment in performance-driven engineering.
The Innovation Center showcases these advancements and represents Linemaster’s commitment to next-generation control solutions. Engineering advancement at Linemaster is deliberate, structured, and aligned with the evolving demands of the industries it serves.

Looking Forward
From its beginnings during the Great Depression to its current position as a recognized leader in engineered foot control systems, Linemaster has remained focused on engineering integrity, manufacturing discipline, and responsible growth.
Nearly ninety years later, the company continues to balance heritage with innovation. By preserving its foundation while investing in advanced technologies, Linemaster is positioned to support the next generation of medical and industrial equipment manufacturers with the same reliability that defined its past.
