Manufacturing Engineer
Overview: The Manufacturing Engineer will lead a defined modernization initiative to transition Linemaster Switch Corporation’s internal machine shop (“Drill Room”) from industrial product machining to medical product readiness. Following completion of the modernization project, the position will function as a permanent Manufacturing Engineering resource within the Engineering department with long term responsibilities in CNC programming, fixture design, metrology support, selective insourcing of machined components, and continuous improvement activities. The role requires strong technical capability in CNC machining, tooling design, GD&T, and equipment qualification, with additional value placed on experience supporting injection molding tooling.
Responsibilities and Duties
Selective Insourcing Strategy and Process Ownership
- Evaluate components for insourcing based on capability, cost, quality, and lead time considerations.
- Develop machining processes, CNC programs, tooling, and qualification documentation for insourced parts.
- Expand internal machining capability as new part families and tolerances are introduced.
- Ensure machining documentation and inspection strategies meet ISO 13485 and related regulatory requirements.
CNC Programming and Process Development
- Create, optimize, and maintain CNC programs for multi axis machining centers.
- Select and optimize tooling, cutting strategies, and machining parameters.
- Perform troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and corrective action for machining issues.
Fixture and Tooling Design
- Design machining fixtures, inspection fixtures, and production tooling to support manufacturing operations.
- Generate engineering documentation including 3D models, drawings, BOMs, and revision controlled records.
Metrology, GD&T, and Inspection Systems
- Apply GD&T per ASME Y14.5 for accurate and consistent manufacturability and inspection.
- Specify and support qualification of inspection equipment including CMMs, optical measurement systems, and gaging.
- Define measurement and verification strategies for precision components in alignment with medical product expectations.
Support for Injection Molding Insourcing (Secondary Responsibilities)
- Support the engineer leading the injection molding insourcing initiative.
- Assist with maintenance, repair, and minor modifications of injection molding tools.
- Provide manufacturing engineering support for tooling wear, gate and interface issues, and dimensional challenges requiring machining based solutions.
- Coordinate process interface considerations between molding and downstream machining or assembly.
Supplier and Outsourcing Support
- Maintain technical oversight of machining suppliers for outsourced components.
- Develop specification packages, inspection criteria, and qualification requirements.
- Support supplier audits, capability reviews, and corrective actions when necessary.
Manufacturing Engineering Support and Continuous Improvement
- Lead DFM and DFA activities and process capability improvements.
- Develop standard work, training documentation, and preventive maintenance guidelines.
- Support production departments on machining, tooling, and process related issues.
- Apply Lean manufacturing principles to eliminate waste and improve throughput.
Reports To: This position will report to the Director of Engineering
- Associate’s degree in a technical engineering field.
- Five or more years of experience in CNC machining, CNC programming, or precision manufacturing engineering.
- Expertise with CNC programming software such as Mastercam, Fusion, or equivalent.
- Strong knowledge of GD&T per ASME Y14.5.
- Proficiency with metrology equipment and measurement techniques.
- Demonstrated experience designing machining fixtures and tooling.
- Experience qualifying CNC machines and machining processes.
- Ability to manage multi phase engineering projects and maintain compliance with relevant regulatory expectations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting or working with injection molding operations.
- Knowledge of tooling maintenance, minor mold modifications, or mold design principles.
- Experience in a regulated manufacturing environment such as medical devices (ISO 13485, FDA QSR).
- Background in bar stock machining and saw cutting operations.
- Lean or Six Sigma training.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering preferred.
- Knowledge of 3D printing.
- Associate’s degree in a technical engineering field.
- Five or more years of experience in CNC machining, CNC programming, or precision manufacturing engineering.
- Ability to lift 20+ pounds
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
Primary Initial Initiative (One Time Project)
Drill Room Modernization for Medical Product Capability
- Transition machining workflows from cast part processing to bar stock machining capability.
- Specify, acquire, and qualify CNC equipment, saws, fixtures, tooling, and inspection systems.
- Develop validated machining processes suitable for medical product requirements, including qualification and capability studies.
- Ensure process development and documentation practices align with ISO 13485 expectations.
- Transition selected secondary machining operations to qualified external suppliers.

The Woodstock location serves as Linemaster’s headquarters, combining advanced manufacturing processes with skilled craftsmanship to produce high-quality foot controls. Spanning 50,000 square feet, the facility includes a drill room, production machining, paint room, assembly operations, warehouse, quality control, office administration, and an engineering department. Linemaster’s commitment to excellence and customer satisfaction is evident in its operations at the Woodstock site, which plays a critical role in the company’s overall success.


Plainfield CT
Linemaster Switch Corporation’s Plainfield location features a 15,000-square-foot facility designed to enhance the company’s manufacturing and logistics capabilities. Of this space, 10,000 square feet is dedicated to a stock room and warehouse. The remaining 5,000 square feet houses the cable and sub-assembly departments, where skilled technicians produce high-quality wiring harnesses. This division is integral to the company’s operations, providing essential components that meet the stringent quality standards Linemaster is known for. The Plainfield facility’s specialized focus on cable production and inventory management supports Linemaster’s reputation for excellence and reliability in its products.
